Going to University

Going to university - paying for university - can be a daunting prospect.  And it's not necessarily the right path for everyone, or perhaps not at the same time in life.  As the first in my own family to go to university, along with 12 years experience in Higher Education careers guidance,  I know that finding reliable information and advice - and then making decisions can be tough and stressful.

Many years ago at an open day, a parent approached me.  "Can you do me a favour?," she asked, "Tell my son not to study maths, because he'll never get a job."  "I can't do that", I replied, "because it's not accurate,"  She, like many people, was surprised to discover that somewhere around 75% of graduate recruiters don't require a specific degree discipline, and also that high levels of numeracy skills are sought by a wide range of employers.  The most important things were ensuring her son was studying a subject he was interested in, and took advantage of the unique opportunities universities can offer to develop outside of the classroom. Together, we can explore how your child can do this.

I offer a 60-minute session for parents to enable you to feel more confident about finding and using information, and strategies to support your child in their choices and decision-making process. £55.00
